"...with frikkin lasers strapped to their heads"

Got my left eye lasered Monday... still see things all weird because I've got a "bandage contact" on the new eyeball and a regular contact on the old bad eye. But the pain is completely gone and I can at least look at a monitor for short periods of time. I was getting pretty squirrely there...no email, websurfing, anything...VERY disturbing as I'm pretty much joined at the hip with The Internets.

So, yeah...laser surgery on the eye...can't begin to explain the coolness. Allow it to suffice for me to say that yes, you CAN see everything happening...it's all blurry and distorted but you can definitely see it all while it's happening. It made me quite tense at first but I forced mysef to relax and let the inquisitive side of my brain take over...smooth sailing from that point. Getting the other eye done in early December. I elected to have the procedures done separately and I'm glad for that decision. The pain is pretty intense immediately following, and I wouldn't want that doubled. Plus I found it a bit comforting to just cover the lasered eye and use my other eye for looking around. Made lfe a bit more bearable, without that...having 2 wonky eyes...would have completely sucked, so yeah, good call :-)

Overall, I'm VERY excited about no longer needing spectacles. I've been visually impaired for most of my life (like most other people) and the glasses never ceased to get in my way and hinder my life. Frankly, if it weren't for the fact that my vision was so bad... I'd probably have had a shot at professional sports (little known, deeply held, personal secret that) and I've always been a bit pissed about it at the Powers That Be :-)

If anyone's curious about what exactly I had done... the procedure was a relatively new technique called an Epi-Lasik. That was combined with a waveguided laser corneal customization... look it up... that's what they did and it's wicked cool :-)
